Clean Garage, Flowers Planted

Week 21

Last week, my husband and I took on the task of cleaning and organizing the garage, after almost 2 years of not being able to park in it. It was one of the main things on my checklist of things to get done before baby #2 arrives in August.
It's so nice to park inside now!

It was kind of a crummy week as far as weather goes,  but I did also manage to lay 12 more bags of mulch down and plant a few plants.  Nothing creative,  but a project none the less.

Bright Refinished Patio Furniture

Week 22

This week I took an old glider and a rocker I found at a garage sale for $20, and brought them back to life.  I first sanded down all the old paint that was chipping off the furniture, which is always my least favorite part of any painting project. Then, using an exterior primer and semi gloss paint, ($25 total), I transformed the tired pieces to vibrant outside decor.  It was a pretty easy and fun project (even for being 6 months pregnant) costing less than $50 for furniture that looks brand new.

Spare Bedroom Makeover

Week 19

This week, I wanted to transform our office that we basically used as a giant junk closet, into a functioning, welcoming spare bedroom/reading room.  My mom will be staying with us a lot when she comes to visit over the next year or so, so I wanted to make it a comfortable place for her, and any other guests, to relax and sleep in. I was able to use left over paint from the boys' dinosaur bathroom, an old futon frame that we had in the basement, a section of our sectional couch, and some Ikea tables that I have made as kitty box covers that also work as end tables. I also had decorations that I had already made in the color theme- teal and green. Besides the brand new futon mattress that I bought, I was able to get all accessories, curtains, lamps, guest towels and new sheets and blankets, for under $100.

Here are the before pictures:

New curtains, pillows, blankets from Target.

The futon in full bed form.  Very comfy!

The chair is a section of our couch that we didn't need in our family room.  I still need to paint the legs on the table.

Personalized Bedroom Doors

Week 20

This week I worked on personalizing the boys' bedroom doors with giant letters. I decorated each letter with the theme of their bedrooms: outer space for Sylas's room and race cars for Zayden's room. I used acrylic paint, scrapbooking paper, and small wooden letters, all in which were already in my craft supplies. I found these giant 3D cardboard letters at Hobby Lobby for $10 each. But with a 50% off coupon,  my total cost for both finished letters was $10 for everything!  Not a bad price for a fun, easy way to make each room, and boy, a little more special.

2014 Spring Jewelry Collection

Week 18

This week I focused my energy on making a bunch of new necklaces and earrings for my Kel's Unique Boutique business, as well as for some new outfits I just bought myself.  With a 40% off all jewelry supplies coupon at Michael's, it was perfect timing to knock out some new designs with some new beads.

Earth Day Projects

Week 17

We had a really nice week a couple of weeks ago with warm weather and sun!  It just happened to be Earth Day that week, so I dedicated my project of the week to be earth related crafts with my son Zayden.  We made bird feeders, painted pots and planted flowers, and made a fun little tent that hangs from the tree made from a shower curtain and hula-hoop.  We had a lot of fun.   Later that week, I also laid down 14 bags of mulch in the back yard.
